Barbie and I have come home just now for a few hours of sleep. We both stayed last night. She found a couch in the chapel down the hall, while I lined us three chairs to make a bed beside Bob.
About 30 friends came by yesterday. What a blessing!! Bob had been taken down to have dialysis, so all of his visitors (just two or three at a time) gathered around his bed down there. He had a lovely location in the renal unit--a wall behind him, no one across from him, and a huge floor to ceiling window on his side. Bob recognized every one and called them by name and interacted and joined in their prayers for him. He had
Yesterday was a gift from God and we're praying for more of those. David arrives today and Tim tomorrow.
Since Bob has rallied, he will likely have some more tests. The ultrasound revealed that Bob's liver is swollen and there's likely a blockage. A CT scan would give a better picture as to whether it is cancer (which is what we're expecting) or something that could dislodge spontaneously or through some procedure. This is a small liklihood, but our personal preference!!

ReplyDeleteI wanted you and Bob to know what a special couple you are to us and so many others. God's grace has been so evident in your lives and you have extended that grace and graciousness to others. Thank you for the impact that you have both had in our lives. We have appreciated the example of marriage that you have set for those that follow you - with Christ as your Rock and your foundation. You have both been a blessing to those you met with your gift of hospitality and your kindness. Over the years, you both have demonstrated such servanthearts.
It was a privilege to work with Bob for those years at PCC - I deeply appreciated Bob's spiritual and practical wisdom and his ongoing encouragement when I was on staff with him. He always demonstrated the leadership I wanted to be more like - even though he is so intelligent and has so many important things to say, he is always a good listener, always supportive, and always a peacemaker. Bob lives with integrity and he is a man of deep character. And yet, with all of his strengths and achievements, it has been remarkable to me how humble Bob has always been. It is no wonder that Bob lives with so much grace - scriptures say that 'the Lord gives grace to the humble' - and I have yet to meet a man who walks with more humility than Bob. What has also made an impact on me was Bob's compassionate heart - it moved me many times to see him moved to tears in a staff meeting or a visit. He has a heart that cares, and I have no doubt that He is a man who has found favour with God. I have no doubt that Bob's Lord and Saviour will say to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ Thank you to both of you for being such a blessing in our lives.

Oh Lisa. How WONDERFUL to receive these memories and words of tribute. I will pass them on to Bob and he will be humbled and grateful. He always loved working with you too and watching you and Ray with your amazing kids.
